State of Power

Client: I don't even drive these cars so why am I paying so much to insure them? Me: You don't drive them? Client: Nope. Me: Then why do you insure them and why do you even own them? Client: Well I do drive them sometimes. And it went on like this for 20 minutes until he hung up on me. "Wow! I'm amazed at how you can keep so cool dealing with difficult clients like that," one of my employees said to me. Was I that cool? I could certainly feel my insides pulled tight and hot ready to unleash rage on the repetitive, nonsensical client who was just looking to pick a fight with someone. But to others, from the outside, I looked and sounded as cool as a polar bear's nose in winter. It wasn't always this way. Before I started NLP training I didn't handle calls like that so well. Either I got angry, even yelling at a client once (he started it by yelling at me first), or I would be nervous and fearful that the client was going to leave me because I simply could not bend or break the rules I did not create in order to satisfy them. State management is, in my opinion, more powerful than knowing several NLP techniques. If you're not in a resourceful state, more than likely, the techniques will be less effective or ineffective altogether. When you are in a resourceful state, you're likely to be effective even without techniques. I'm certainly not dissing techniques. They are important. Speaking of; these 14 patterns are some of my favorite NLP techniques.
