The Magic is Not in the Wand

NLP students often put more emphasis on techniques and processes than skill. Techniques and processes are no doubt important, but without practicing them and without developing your skills they won't be as nearly as effective as they could be. Ever try out a new recipe in the kitchen? And even though the recipe is a great recipe complete with every detail, ingredient, and direction on how to cook it, you still couldn't make it taste the way the chef at your favorite restaurant makes it. Of course you couldn't. The chef has had years of experience and you only tried to make it once. So often NLP students watch a trainer who has been practicing for years demonstrate what looks like magic and instead of noticing the skill the trainer is bringing to the demo, they focus on the process as the element that is creating the magic. The magic is in the magician, not the wand. A wand without a magician is useless. A magician without a wand though can still do magic. As Judith DeLozier once told me "processes and techniques will fail at times, but your skills will never fail you." If you haven't experience Judith DeLozier's teaching, now you can!
